Social and Emotional Development is critical to a child's overall development, because it contributes to their behavior. Preschool is the time of development where kids learn how to act with other people (kids) and right from wrong. Our curriculum for this area of development will help set a foundation to promise good behavior and good social skills both now in their childhood and their future. The skills that we will teach them will be very beneficial and help them when they proceed into elementary school. Listed below is our curriculum for social/emotional development, which will be taught in the order it is listed.

  • 1. Self- concept/ Self Esteem- Our main goal is to promote a healthy and positive learning experience for the kids. We want them to enjoy school and want to comeback because THEY choose to. We will pay attention to each child specifically and help them realize their strengths and what areas they show talent in. This will help provide positive self-esteem and help promote a sense of accomplishment for the child to be happy about. This also helps develop confidence in a child and promote independence in some activities.
  • 2. Self Control- We will teach skills that show how to express feelings, needs, opinions, and how to deal with difficult situations. They will learn how to understand how their actions and decisions affect others and accept consequences for bad decisions. This specific area of this curriculum involves teaching kids to follow rules, and being respectful to both teachers and other students. This area is a key factor to developing a good behavior in a child.
  • 3. Cooperation- We want each child to have a good learning experience and learn more from it. In order to learn properly, they must cooperate with the instructor. At this preschool we will teach them how them how to interact with other students by helping, sharing, and participating in discussions. Cooperation also involves learning how to compromise and resolve conflicts with other students. It also will help the kids to learn to take turns and demonstrate fair play. Without cooperation, both the child's learning and social education will lack proper development.
  • 4. Social Relationships- We will help each child become comfortable with speaking to new people, and carrying conversations with them. This will help them develop good friendships with their fellow students, and learn how to make new friends with new people. This will benefit them especially when they transfer into kindergarden and are in a class with brand new people. We will also teach them to demonstrate how to show sympathy to others who are in need of help. For example, if a child is crying or upset, they will learn to go over to that child and comfort them and make sure they are alright. This will help your child with forming positive friendships in the future.
  • 5. Knowledge of Families and Communities- Each child has a different background, and we want them to know how unique and special each one of them are. We will help them develop the knowledge of their personal background and composition, and learn that not one child is the same. We will study the great things of the different cultures that surround us and that everyone is great in their own special way. They will also learn different things about their communities and its structure. We want them to be interested in getting involved with a variety of cultures and communities and understand them.
